Panama's Rising Profile Tops International "Best" Lists

1/24/12

Panama City, Panama, January 24, 2012 – Open any major publication and you’ll find Panama in the spotlight. This tropical haven for retirees is gearing up for its much-deserved moment in the sun. The canal is expanding, the economy is booming and high-profile projects are earning the small isthmus a modern place in the international arena.

The New York Times’ feature, “The 45 Places to Go in 2012”, lists Panama first, touting the masses of American expats and investors “who have banked on Panamanian real estate by building hotels and buying retirement homes.” Echoing the sentiments, Travel+Leisure names Panama one of its “Hottest Travel Destinations of 2012.” Among the highlights: Frank Gehry’s new $90 million Biomuseo (opening this winter) and the new five-star hotels rising along Panama City’s bustling waterfront. National Geographic also votes Panama among its “Best of the World 2012,” calling it an “Eco Wonderland” where “nature and indigenous culture are abundant.”

The recent fanfare underscores the importance of Panama Pacifico to the Panamanian landscape. “Panama is proving itself as the place to be on so many levels,” says Henry Kardonski, Managing Director for London & Regional Panama (LRP), master planner for Panama Pacifico. “Business wants to be in a country that is business friendly and globally connected, while the rich culture and beauty are attracting people from all over the world in search of the most exciting place to live in the Americas. Panama Pacifico is creating a model community for Panama that lives up to the extraordinary promise of this country.”
